I have two large sized bone spurs in my heels of both feet.. Should you wear sneakers, be mindful what you get. I am learning on a curve.  I started out with $100 (yipe!) Brooks sneakers. These were $$$$, but worth it!  But they wore out quickly since I wore them everyday. Then I got New Balance 620, and wore them to death.  Now I have a pair I got from Sprts Authority, Champion Walkers. These were by far the most PAINFUL experience! You see, when you buy sneakers, you have to make sure of a solid, flat bottom. Semi-deep treads fine, but no carved out spots in the heels.  No springs, because now, I have such foot pain, it feels like the tendons in the arch of my foot are ripping. My ankles hurt like crazy.

I remedy them by rolling golf balls under the arches and heel areas, ice packs, and ibuprofin. On Saturdays, at the chiropractor, he'll zap them to turn it off, and eventually break apart the spurs.

So, I am going to buy new sneakers over the weekend,  What to get???  I am also asking for those who might have used Dr. Scholl's jel-inserts.

You know that you have plantar fasciitis, don't you? The spurs are a secondary problem--what really hurts is the tendon that's attached to the bone where the spurs are, at your heel, and runs the length of your foot.. The tendon is inflamed and whenever you put your weight on your foot, and your arch flattens out, it stretches the sore tendon and HURTS.

I had p.f. in both feet for several years. They put me in casts to keep the tendon stretched out (it shortens at night, and when you take your weight off a foot, even momentarily). I got shots in my heels---aaarrrrgghhh--pretty often just so I could walk. Next step was going to be surgery. Nothing made the problem go away, until . . .

I bought a pair of men's( they had better arch support than the women's) trail Tevas and wore them (or their replacements) for two years. Not stylin' but great arch support. I cured myself and it's been over 10 years and the PF hasn't come back.

What I learned is that the problem really isn't your heel, it's your arch. Support it so it doesn't flatten and yank the messed-up tendon where it's attached to your heel, and so much of the pain goes away.

hmmm, never thought about wearing a men's shoe!  If they come in black, I think I will be able to get away with it at work. But summer has finally arrived, and now I am thinking of going and buying an old friend, Dr Scholls wood sandals. And maybe they manufacture another style but with a similar sole.

I think that's what both the podiatrist and the chiro had said what I have if PF.
