I just returned from seeing his holiness, the Dalai Lama give an inspiring and touching speech at the Seeds of Compassion conference in Seattle. What an intelligent, enlightened, charming and humble human being. There was this incredible energy that ignited when he entered the arena. In fact I became teary eyed unexpectedly when he entered as I was overwhelmed by the effect of his presence. He spoke of how critical this be the age of compassion and non-violence, and also pointed out the world despite a couple of critical problems we are currently facing, (global warming and over population) is continuing to become a better place in this century due to our increasing consciousness, awareness, and the human rights movement. I think it's an incredible example to us all that despite all the turmoil going in his country he continues marching on spreading the word of love and compassion with joy, love and laughter. With all of the goings on in his home land right now we weren't quite sure what to expect in support vs. protests around the event. There were only a few protestors in comparison to the 55,000 there in support fortunately, however one protestor went as far as to fly overhead pulling a banner that read "Dalai Lama stop supporting riots". We all just shook our heads in disbelief and eventually ignored it. I have to say it was the experience of a life time, and perhaps the once in a life time opportunity.Edited by: Joy Jackson, Life & Wellness Coach on Apr 12, 2008 8:05:38 PM |

It must have been amazing to have been there. I read that he was going to be in Seattle and I only wished I could have been present.
What I find most inspiring about him is that despite everything that the Chinese government has done against him and Tibet, he doesn't bear any ill will nor does he promote protesting or boycotting against them.
That is the kind of compassion that I am striving to make part of myself, and I hope others follow his example. |
