Fast Food?

I have had a love/hate thing going on with food for most of my life. Since starting Ti Chi, I find my attude twards food and eating have changed. I am a scarfer by nature-one of those "shovel it in " types.  The other day I realized that I must not only move from the center--but I must eat from the center too.  I have found that most people do eat too fast.

Food is the fuel that runs the body--the gas in the car , if you will.  By slowing down, you not only get satisfied with less-but what you do eat  feeds you more. I gues our moms were right when they said"don't eat so fast."

There are tastes and flavors to be savored in even simple things like bread, fruit and veggies. There is really no hurry.  Get up a few moments eariler or make some things ahead--That way you can really enjoy meal time -especially breakfast. Take time to "fill your tank". It will give you a more restful start to the day.

What a wonderful revelation! Slowing down and thinking about where your food comes from and how it feeds your body is a way to connect with yourself and the world. And I've found that the less fast food and processed food I eat, the more I appreciate the flavor of whole foods. When I get off track and eat something from, say, Applebee's, it tastes totally synthetic to me now.

I just had a conversation with my fiancee about this on my way to work.

We both reflected over the fact that our bodies really take a big hit whenever we eat prepared food (and especially fast food!), because we really do eat very healthy at home.

We can't remember the last time we fried anything, and if we ever use oil, it's very small amounts of olive oil for cooking pasta or the like.

It's really amazing just how great eating fresh food makes you feel, and it's really disappointing to see how negatively fast food can affect you if you don't eat it frequently.

My fiance is a chef and in the past, we had no discrepancies as far as what we were eating. Don't get me wrong, we still ate healthful foods here and there, but the sky is the limit as far as what he can create in the kitchen.

I recently decided to do a six day detox and to my surprise, he jumped on board. Yesterday was day 3 and we sat down and talked about the changes and thoughts we are experiencing.

It's amazing that when you cut back on all the things you're used to eating, how you can really put food into perspective. We were talking about how we miss fatty foods. But then we started listing all the "junk" ingredients or procedures it takes to get that declicious fatty food.  And talking about the effects it has later.

Does it make us fee delicious when we're done eating platefuls of it? No. It's instant gratification that has a dirty feeling in the end.

We've decided to pay better attention to what we're putting in our bodies.
