Ti Chi is changening my life!

I just have to tell about how Ti Chi is changeing my life for the better.

In November I was told that I had diabeties type 2. I had to find an exersise program to go with my walking. I am very over weight and had once takes some Ti Chi classes a few years ago, but I dropped out when I had a disagreemant with another member of the class. I bought The beginning practice DVD with David Dorian Ross. I have been doing both the AM Chi and beginning practice for nearly three months now and have seen changes in every aspect of my life. Not only have I lost nearly 20 pounds, but my whole attude twards life has changed. My kitchen cabenets are strait and orderly, my stove and fridge are clean, and I actually look forward to doing my house work everyday.  I have also seen changes in the way I realate to people . I have been able to hold calm and pleasent conversations with people that used to set my teeth on edge. I am eating less, but I am eating smarter, so I am not hungry.  I have ganed more flexiblity and strenth-so I can walk better and farther. Even the way I walk down the street has changed.  I used to walk with my head down and never look anyone in the eye. I now walk upright and meet anyone's eyes and smile.

I just can't say enough about David Dorian Ross. His calm and gentle voice is alot more motovating and assureing than some skinny little thing in a bra top screeching at you.   I am in the process of phasing in the upper body workout with the Chi ball.

Ti chi has really given me a new lease on life.

ERL that's an awesome and really inspiring story!

I'm so glad to hear that you've found a way to bring out that confidence and happiness within you, and make sure that it is always showing

Thanks for sharing your experience with us, and keep us posted on how things go as you progress with the Chi ball!

I have phased in the upper body chi workout--though sometimes I do get little twinges.

I find it's best to do upper body right after AM chi when my body is alined and relaxed. Less pain that way.

the chi ball is working out great! I find that the best time to do the upper body workout is right after the AM Chi--that way my body is aligned and relaxed and it lessens the muscle strain. Things are less achy--because I am learning to use the mind first  and letting the body follow

I am learning to direct my chi! I had to do some heavy lifting yesterday--and this is not easy for me---I remembered somthing that DDR said in the introduction to the upper body chi work out "The mind moves the Chi and the Chi moves the body." I applyed this principal when I was moving the couches in the living room to vacum.. I experenced no weakness or strain as I usually do.

Hi ERL,

It seems as if Tai Chi is really helping many things come together for you -- emotionally, mentally and physically.

I really admire you for your effort and dedication and you're convincing me to start a Tai Chi practice!

I don't know why thease are posting twice. I walked NINE miles yesterday! If anyone had told me that I could do that a few months ago-I would have said they were out of their minds! and no ill effects out side of a little good tiredness. No sleep problems last night.

well here I am again. I did not go to the ST Paddy's day parade today. It's not one of the places I choose to show up-along with New Orleans at Madi Gras or Times Square on New Year's eve. Since I started my practice, my neighbors have noticed how much happier I am-and any one in this town that is happy outside of a bar , church or crack house is suspect(and looking happy at church is suspect) I just don't choose to go. and I feel it is my right! I am not pleased when people rave about "freedom of choice" and then comdem you when you don't choose their way.

I guess this is getting to be a kind of semi blog here . One thing I am learning-I do not have to control the lives of others around me. It is such a freedom to trust others to do what is right for themselves without rushing in to "save" them. Not to say that I won't give advice--I am just going to wait until I am asked for it. It's also good not to have to be right all the time.  having knowlage of ignorance as Lau Tzu says.

I have been phasing in a new and more challengeing work out(Daily Practice and lower body) In spite of some mental blocks I am learning to let the inner energy move my body-resulting in less pain and strain. It's a new concept--especially in "western " terms. We tend to think of exersise as jumping up and down and being screamed at by little skinny things in bra tops with under wear model partners.  It is differnt to learn that you can work up a sweat without being tense about whether you are "doing it right".  Not that you don't do Ti Chi correctly--but I am embraceing the process--Learning that slowness is not "being Lazy"-  I am welcoming the new concept.
