So I've been checking out the forums and noticed lots of new faces posting frequently (Joy Jackson and ninjamasterdave especially!) and I thought it'd be great for everyone to share a little about themselves.
To make it simple, I've got 5 easy questions for everyone to answer. I'll start first:
What's your name?
Joe
Where are you in the world?
I live in Denver, Colorado (USA)
Share one way you want to change the world
I would love to help developing countries raise awareness and excitement for taking care of the environment and promoting a clean, healthy and green lifestyle.
I just visited my birthplace in Mexico after not having visited for 11 years and I was very saddened to see that the "City of Eternal Spring" looked vastly different. Now there are so many cars that can barely all fit in the streets and the smog is just completely out of control.
I really hope one day it will be restored to its natural beauty again.
Share an interesting fact about yourself
I am addicted to vinyl records and have a growing collection of over 300 R&B, Soul, Hip Hop, Reggae, Downtempo and Drum N Bass records.
What do you like best about being on Gaiam Community?
Meeting lots of interesting people that are just as excited as I am about reducing their impact on the planet, and living with an open and conscious mind. |

I would like to open up my own non-profit organization. I have a few ideas about opening a center for at-risk youth to introduce them to outdoor activities and developing an appreciation for the environment. I'm also passionate about social justice issues and environmental issues, so maybe something that focuses on that.

My name is Michelle. I live in Boston.
I'd like to change the world by pointing it away from advertising and media, and towards truth. I'm a yoga instructor and soon-to-be holistic health counselor. I currently volunteer with an organization called yogaHOPE, bringing yoga to underserved women in the Boston area.
Interesting facts: I skipped second grade. I love to dance. My three cats are named Gorgonzola, Peanut and Figaroman.
What do I like best about the Gaiam Community? Well, I'm not sure because I just joined. But so far, lots of great topics and people sharing! |

If I help reduce some of the suffering in the world before my life cycle is done, I will pass on with a smile.
Currently I am attempting to help raise awareness of the need for sustainable living, and the need for more love and compassion in the world in as many ways as I can. I also work with people to support them in making positive and healthy changes in their lives.

I practice healing with stones and crystals (I do this simply for my love of working with them). About seven months ago I took time away from endurance running weight training to become a full time Ashtanga Yogi (I used to run marathons mostly). I fell in love with Ashtanga right away. I still run on occasion but I do it only to trek out in nature, and not for the same reasons that I used to. Ashtanga has taught me so much about myself and changed me in ways I never dreamed possible. I also love to cook, garden, sing, dance and draw. Creating is wonderful. Aloha Gaiam Community,
My Name is Rebecca. I live on Maui and on a little island in Tonga with my husband Ty. Spend a month a year with the Bimini spotted dolphins so it is almost home too.
We are doing our part to change the world with Aquacranial. www.aquacranial.com and our Reef kids project. www.reefkidsinternational.com
Also helping change the world by connecting as many people as possible to the resources available to easily go green with Gaiam.
Interesting facts about me: I will do just about anything a wild dolphin or whale wants me to do so they seem to follow me around. Seriously. See one of my whale friends on youtube. Rebecca Goff Whale Mugging #1 video.
Gaiam community is an easy way to see a bit more of who is out there interested in green living and a gentler planet. Nice to be a part of it. |

I am Lora and I live in Grant, AL.
Just recently becoming more aware (more like an awakening!) of our beautiful world and the need for a positive change, I want to pass my awareness along to others. I want them to understand that even the smallest change makes the biggest change if we all work together!
I love to learn. I thrive on it. In college I changed my major so many times because I feel like I want to to a little of everything. I'm slowly converting myself into a vegetarian, that's very slowly. I love to draw and paint even though I hardly find time to do it. I practice mainly Iyengar Yoga. If I ever get in a depressed mood, hiking is my anti-depressant and I love to camp!
I want to learn from others who are more knowledgable (sp?) about changing for the good of our planet and at the same time make some like-minded friends. |

I love reading your posts, Joe! You've got great ideas and a big, warm heart.
My name is Heather
I live in Hanna, Indiana
I want to change the world by....I want to touch people's lives in any way that they need it. Friendship, love, light, communication, education, learning self-worth. It's my goal everyday when I wake up to continue to grow and learn and to teach others that we are here for eachother, not for just our own sole purpose. We are all about the whole person and keeping it balanced. We are all in this together and have burdens we carry, which feel amazingly light when we connect with others. We are amazing beings, some unfortunately, with the amazing ability to destroy. Hopefully, there will more that can heal and rebuild and overcome.
Interesting fact...I am a complete ying/yang person in almost every aspect of my personality and being and my Pisces waters run deep. I am also a "sensitive" at times. ~btw Joe, I have a little collection of LP's from when I was growing up...think I still have some 8-tracks!!!! and have my mothers 1970's console to listen to them both on. I had boxes and boxes of the 45's until they got water damaged :o(
What do I like best about the Gaiam Community? Well, plainly and honestly put, I spend a lot of my time looking for someplace a belong, with not very good results. I feel comfortable here and I love learning something new everyday and having conversations in the most unexpected places. |

Hi, my name is Kathi!
I live in Shakopee, MN
I want to change the world by introducing my clients to Healthy living. I am opening a Day Spa and decided to go Green all the way. I am becoming LEED certified and all my products will be organic. It has been really challenging. I have had to dig for info, etc.
I am a Nat'l Certified Bodywork Therapist. This changed my life by opening me up to Eastern Medicine and the knowledge of a century ago that is relevant today.
I love that Gaiam is a nuturing environment. Like Heather, I too have been looking for someplace to belong. I love Gaiam for creating this. |

That sounds beautiful what you've decided to do with your life. My husband and I have been trying to get our business going, we make vegan and all natural soaps and body products. It was such a learning experience! It has brought me closer to some and farther from others and that's something I never would have expected just by making soap. It's a struggle everyday and sometimes I think I'm trying too hard, but things will happen as they should.
Maybe we can help eachother find that place we belong. I know some days I feel like I've taken three steps forward and am getting closer and other days I feel like I've lost all of the ground I've gained. I'm finally learning that I need to accept myself and all facets of me, before I can feel like I will belong anywhere. I guess I have to be comfortable in my own skin! As I'm getting older, I find myself seeking others to be around that feed aspects of myself I always fed on my own. We certainly are social beings.
Best wishes, please stay in touch. Heather

Heather - I feel for you. I have lost my so called best friend over my decision to go green with my life. She was going to work with me in my business and just didn't get what going Green meant and it ended up causing a lot of friction.
The funny thing is it has brought into my life so many other excellent people who have become my strongest allies in creating this business. It is true that somehow things have a way of working out if you let the negative energy go.
The best advice I can give is stick to your ideals. The people who also care will follow.

I want to change our relationship with land. Specifically, how we use and develop land. The current system favors large, sprawling isolated development with really inefficient use of property. I want to encourage not only more compact walkable development, but also creative adaptive reuse of existing buildings and infrastructure, and a reworking of suburban areas to be more sustainable by folding in higher density through non-traditional dwelling units, converting wasted lawn area to food production, adapting public transit concepts to lower density areas, and expanding pedestrian and bike facilities.

You know how the stereotypical women gets all crazy at a shoe sale? That's how I act when I'm cut loose in my favorite garden store.

It's a safe haven for discussing alternative living without having to justify the decision to live outside the lines of "normal".
