I love Morgan Freeman — I can watch Shawshank Redemption over and over — but I think the man needs to be grounded.
The Academy Award winner, who costars with Angelina Jolie in Wanted (pictured) and is currently appearing on Broadway in The Country Girl, recently appeared on Letterman and chatted about how he just loves flying his private plane from his Mississippi home to Los Angeles and New York whenever he has to work — which is frequently if you check his IMDB.com page. The 71-year-old bragged, who encouraged Dave to get a pilot's license, went on to brag that he has over 2,000 hours in flight... though didn't mention how much pollution his twin-engine, seven-seater plane emits while clogging up our friendly skies.
"I fly from home to Los Angeles ... solo in my own Cessna 414 aircraft," Morgan has said. "It's exhilarating traveling at 270mph and a great way to get to work."
Yes, Morgan — flying is a great way to get around... when you aren't traveling 1,600 miles by yourself! Then it's just wasteful.
On a positive note, Morgan, who will also appear in the upcoming Batman flick The Dark Knight, has teamed up with Sierra Club for some public service announcements on climate change and storm preparedness.
"We are all students in the school of big storms," says Morgan, who founded Plan!tNow, a hurricane and storm-related disaster relief organization. "We have learned what happens when governments, families and communities aren't prepared for hurricanes. We need to act now, before the next big storm hits."
Buddies Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were together again this week for a good cause: poker! The guys participated in Ante Up for Charity, an event that took place at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas that was spearheaded by Don Cheadle and benefits victims of the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. Those fellas will love the newly rebuilt Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel near Traverse City, Michigan. It's a green casino with skylights providing natural light, a wastewater-treatment system and drinks are served only in glasses: no cans or bottles. Cool deal, right?
Prince Charles income went up last year ($32 million!), but his carbon footprint shrank. An annual review of his records shows that his income is up 7 percent but his greater use of green energy and taking further trips has cut his greenhouse-gas emissions by 18 percent.
His goal is 25 percent by 2012.
Furthermore, the prince has converted his 38-year-old Aston Martin to run on biofuel made from surplus wine. The car runs on 100 percent bioethanol.
He also converted his other cars — some Jaguars, an Audi and a Range Rover — to run on 100 percent biodiesel.
Cars can run on wine? Fabulous. I can finally can get rid of all the bad bottles of wine I've been gifted with over the years. I'm dumping them in my old Honda's gas tank this weekend.
Lastly, Nip/Tuck actress Joely Richardson chats with the UK's Guardian about all things green in a new interview.
She says that if could buy any green gadget, she'd invest in solar panels. "They make the most of a natural resource and help reduce reliance on other forms of power."
She also shared a story about the last nice green thing she did, saying: "I recently went on a trip to Malawi to generate awareness for the Ariel Be Water Wise campaign which aims to donate 10 liters of safe drinking water to children in developing countries for every pack sold. Seeing first-hand how children struggle to survive without access to safe water made me really appreciate how fortunate I am, and how even a small contribution can make a difference to those less fortunate."

It's great to know that even the Prince of England, is doing his part by converting his vehicles with turbonetics to run on biofuel. He sets a good example to his people.
