Celebrity Planet: George Clooney’s Solo Ride, J.Lo Recycles and More

Celebrity Planet is on Martha's Vineyard island this week, the Massachusetts haven that's the home away from home for celebrities like David Letterman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Diane Sawyer. In fact, MV is where Jake and Reese Witherspoon were spotted last summer, at the Agricultural Fair, and word got out to the rest of the world that they were “back on.”

With my belly full of pasta with organic peas, zucchini and yellow squash fresh from the local farmer's market, I'm ready to deliver the latest green gossip…

George Clooney has been on the down low since he split with Sarah Larson, but he recently agreed to a chat with the UK's Times to talk about his electric car, the Tango. “ It can be embarrassing,” he of the one-seater. “There's nowhere to hide, because it's just me behind the wheel and there isn't enough space for anyone else. But it goes from zero to 60mph in four seconds, which is faster than virtually every other car on the road, so I can take off with a burst of speed if I get too many insults.”

I applaud his use of an electric car, but how is a stud like George going to pick up a new lady in a one-seater? Methinks he needs to find a gal who's also a Tango driver. Anyone?

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have been vacationing in Portofino, Italy and, man, do they look like a happy couple — especially when they were snapped smooching during a swim. Star magazine was also talking about new mom Jen because she's big into recycling her young twins' old clothes. Apparently J.Lo spends thousands of dollars on designer baby clothes each week (!) and little Max and Emme “rarely wear the same thing twice.” So Jen's been giving all the clothes to charity near her Long Island, New York home.

If you are her neighbor, head to your local Salvation Army stat.

While Sheryl Crow's ex-fiancee dates yet another Hollywood blonde (I'm referring to Lance Armstrong and new love Kate Hudson), she's busy making the world a better place. The single mom is launching an eco-friendly clothing line of denim apparel for Western Glove Works named Bootheel Trading Co. by Sheryl Crow. A friend of hers tells Star: “She's heading to Australia in October to meet with her partners and start production.”

Appearing in his new green show, Battleground Earth,  has done a world of good for Tommy Lee. The show has wrapped, but Pamela Anderson's ex is continuing to reduce his carbon footprint.

“I've learned so much,” he told Blender magazine. “I'm about to go solar and get totally off the grid. All the grass on my property is going to be replaced - this s**t, I'm telling you, it doesn't smell, but it looks and feels exactly like real grass. No watering, no pesticides or fertilizers. It's insane.”

I'm a fan of Stella McCartney. I love her perfume, but her work philosophy is even better. Paul McCartney's daughter talks about how she's been inspired by her late mother, Linda, to promote environmental issues in her work. Her most recent venture? An eco-organic range of products.

"I think mum would be really proud of me because I have actually done something in fashion,” she told FemaleFirst. “So much of what I do and what I stand for comes from her and the way I was brought up. In the fashion world, I'm viewed as this mad hippy because I won't use leather or fur and I bang on about taking environmental issues seriously and being vegetarian."

But unlike some, she admits she's not perfect. She added: "I'm not saying I'm perfect. I only have one recycling bin at home. I fly on planes. None of us can be perfect but, as mum always said, you have to do a little bit."

Well, back to my vacation. I'll be sure to let you know if I see Reese & Jake. ;)

‘Sacred travel’ lets you re-create yourself at spiritual hotspots

Love to travel but no longer content with South Beach or Vail? There is another option available. A number of years ago, I wanted a trip that was based on personal growth and discovery. Today this is called “sacred travel.” (Back then it was about taking my savings and heading out with a backpack.) I first [...]

One flight = HOW much CO2?! Slashing my holiday footprint …

I did the math in my head. We have one car that barely gets driven, a TV and DVD player that get unplugged when not in use, plus a diet free of meat — and I have to admit that I was feeling a bit overconfident when I plugged my numbers into the carbon calculator [...]

How to make fabric gift bags

A website I visited recently recommended knitting holiday stockings. What a lovely idea, I thought. But I’d have to remember how to knit … I think I’ll just buy some “homespun” stockings instead. Yet there is a simple project I did one year for the holidays that was very rewarding in the same way [...]

Detox yoga how-to sequence

Detoxing after the holiday “re-tox” — no matter how much carnage was left on that Thanksgiving dinner table, or how much stress crept into your weekend — is as easy as unrolling your mat. No matter when or on what level you could use a little realigning, this sequence is for you. Follow the how-to and [...]

Stairs till you drop! Mall shoppers are stepping up

I recently read an article about a mall in England that posted colorful, stand-out signs by the escalator/stairs in the mall last Christmas to encourage and inspire shoppers to take the stairs instead of the escalators. The article noted that “normally, about 4 percent of people at the mall take the stairs but after adding [...]

Stressed? Don’t work out longer; just shake things up

Many people think that tons of rigorous workouts help relieve stress. But research shows that it can actually have the opposite effect. Changing up your routine can ease stress more effectively than doing MORE of the same. You can change your workout routine in many ways including … When doing fat-burning workouts, change the settings, machine or [...]

Be first on your block to get a farmer

We all need a farmer. Someone who who looks us in the eye when she tells us how she feeds her animals, or how can’t offer eggs this week because the free-range hens have laid the eggs somewhere she can’t find them ...

How gratitude can transform your body

Thinking about Thanksgiving prompted me to write this blog. I saved it to my computer planning to enter it online as soon as I got a chance. Then coincidently I heard a radio interview with psychologist Robert Emmons, author of a book called Thanks. Emmons has spent years studying positive psychology, and in the interview [...]
