How to Lose Belly Fat
When it comes to losing belly fat, there is no quick fix, and no magic pill you can take. When it comes to losing weight, nothing will completely replace a proper diet and exercise routine. That’s the bad news. The good news, says Dr. Michael Jensen, an obesity researcher at the Mayo Clinic, is that when you do exercise, it is that pesky belly fat that often begins to disappear first for most people.
Here are some simple steps to losing weight that have stood the test of time and proved their effectiveness, especially when it comes to losing that belly fat.
Step 1: Drink water
Experts will tell you to drink eight to 10 glasses of water a day, but did you know that when you drink those glasses is also very important? Try drinking one or two glasses 10 minutes before a meal. You will find yourself less hungry when you get to the dinner table, and less likely to overeat.
Step 2: Do not let yourself get hungry, ever
If you allow yourself to get hungry, your body goes into starvation mode, which leads to a slower metabolism and much less fat burning. When you are hungry, you also tend to make hurried, poorer choices about food, such as ignoring calorie counts. Try eating small, balanced meals every two to three hours, and keep drinking that water.
Step 3: Kill your food cravings
If you can master your unhealthy food cravings, you will go a long way toward losing your belly fat. When you get those cravings, rather than try to white-knuckle it, eat a smaller portion of your favorite chocolate, or a handful of almonds if you crave something salty. If you simply deny yourself the treat, the cravings may build until it is uncontrollable and you cannot resist overeating your favorite unhealthy snacks.
Step 4: Get a workout in the morning
No one is saying you should run a mini marathon, but do break a sweat. Losing weight is difficult, if not impossible, without an exercise routine. Go on a brisk 30-minute walk and then follow that up with some abs exercises. By working out first thing in the morning, you force your body to start burning its fat stores earlier than if you had worked out after breakfast.
These are just four steps you can take to lose belly fat and move in the direction of a healthier you. Remember, losing weight will take patience, work and commitment on your part, and the effort will be worth it.
