Colors of the Auras

A guide to reading people's emotions and attributes via their auras

According to Reiki and holistic health practitioners, an aura is made of magnetic energy that enters and exits a human body, manifesting itself as a colored halo to the practiced human eye. In Reiki, there are seven layers, or colors, of auras that each correspond to a different aspect of a living individual. If you can see auras, you can read auras by studying these colors to determine how people are feeling and whether or not their lives are in balance.

Red aura colors

The first level of the color of auras, the reds, corresponds to the heart and circulation. Seeing auras requires you to understand what the shade of an aura color means. For instance, clear red can mean passion, while dark pink can suggest dishonesty, according to the Reiki belief.

Orange-colored auras

The second level of the color of auras is orange, which corresponds to the emotions and reproductive organs. If you’re seeing auras that are yellow, you’re probably looking at a happy, optimistic and energetic person, while reading auras that are a shockingly bright yellow color can suggest that the person is in a struggle for control.

Green-colored auras

This is the aura of the heart and lungs, in addition to the color of auras that suggests love, balance and change. Different shades of green can suggest creativity or jealousy.

Blue aura colors

If you’re reading a blue aura, it’s likely that the person you’re observing has some sort of psychic ability. However, blue is also related to the throat and thyroid, and it can also suggest fear.

Silver and gold aura colors

Seeing auras that are silver suggests the person who is being observed has wealth, happiness or profound enlightenment. A gold color in the aura suggests that a person is deeply in touch with the divine.

Black- and white-colored auras

People with black auras are typically those who are taking others' energy. White auras suggest that individuals are reflecting others' energy. Encountering a person with a black aura often indicates that he is carrying extreme bitterness. A person with an aura of white color is often one who is very innocent, pure and spiritually connected.

Earth and aura colors

Most auras will not be completely derived from one color, and the longer you practice, the more layers you will be able to see. Sometimes, the colors of auras are earth tones, which suggest a connection to the earth and a down-to-earth disposition. Other times, according to the Reiki belief, auras include rainbows, pastels and dirty colors. Reiki healers will emit rainbow auras, while pastels suggest sensitivity and those with auras of dirty colors are holding or blocking energy.

How to see auras

Walking by a friend, relative, or complete stranger, have you ever wished you could tell whether an expression meant frustration, sadness or anger? Being able to read auras is actually immensely practical. Seeing auras isn’t as difficult as it seems when you follow a few steps.

Step 1: Get in touch with your spiritual side

If you’re distracted by your job, your children, problems or even excessive positive excitement, you won’t be able to practice the stillness necessary to see another person’s aura. You should make a daily practice of meditation before you attempt to read auras.

Step 2: Be positive

Were you always the child in school who could never find Waldo? If so, part of the reason was probably the fact that you got frustrated and convinced yourself you couldn’t do it. If you’re positive and tell yourself that you will be able to see auras with some practice — you will be successful.

Step 3: Practice on a friend

According to Simona Rich, a success coach and aura reader, finding a semi-dark room with natural light and one wall of a solid, neutral color can be perfect for beginners. In quiet concentration, focus on either the area between the shoulder and the head or above the head. After staring with a non-blinking, soft gaze, you should begin to see the first levels of aura appear.

Step 4: Understand your own awareness and consciousness

According to Rich, you can only see an aura with your "blurry" vision, and other practitioners stress the importance of focusing your consciousness on your pineal gland. Meditating will help you become more aware of your own consciousness and manipulate your consciousness for best aura reading.

Step 5: Test your skills on others

After you’ve practiced on a friend and become better at manipulating your own consciousness, you can begin to try to see the auras of others. However, it may become hard to observe the aura of a person who knows you are doing this.

Step 6: Understand the color of auras

When you first start seeing auras, you might not see the full, colorful cloud. Instead, what you may see is simple white or grey. According to Rich, you may actually see a person's "etheric body" and mistake it for her aura. Don’t give up. Eventually, you will see the brightly colored auras that can better suggest how a person is feeling. Learn what the aura colors mean as you practice with friends and strangers.

Tips and warnings

Before attempting to see auras, spend some time focusing intently on your spirituality through meditation. Just because you can see peoples’ auras and are practiced at reading auras doesn’t mean they’ve asked to you to be their counselor or advisor. Be careful what you do with the information you receive.

I'm quite sensitive (vivid dreams, animal dreams, apparitions, empathy, etc.). Because I find it quite difficult to meditate, I've recently taken up yoga to start calming my mind and build up my health. After only a couple of sessions, I started seeing aura's around my fingers and hands in certain positions (yellow/orange/green). Is this normal? I've never been able to see aura's on living people before, though I do suffer from migraines with halo's.
